School can be challenging. This is especially true for those pupils whose lives, families or social circles are facing difficulties. This often leads to internal and external tensions, as well as conflicts – situations in which lessons, relationships and community life come under strain.
Our school social work is right at the heart of it all. We are present in everyday school life, speak directly to pupils and support parents and teachers when a situation has reached an impasse or is threatening to spiral out of control. For us, it is about providing greater clarity, restoring the ability to act and finding a way forward together.
We create spaces where fear and anger are allowed to be expressed, whilst at the same time providing guidance. In doing so, problems are not merely identified, but addressed in such a way that life can move forward. At the same time, it is about more than just crises: we work with groups, implement projects on democracy education and support pupils in taking on responsibility and helping to shape their school. In this way, school becomes a place where not everything runs smoothly, but where things can move forward.
